All elephants owned by humans are victims of abuse and torture. South India is a hub of elephants used for human-related purposes. Although the use of elephants is illegal in India, people have found 3 loopholes:

1. Use in religious settings - temples, ceremonies

2. Weddings - very popular in Kerala

3. Tourism - foreigners have always loved riding elephants
