Touring slums always gives me a voyeuristic feeling. I have been to 4 thus far in my life — one outside of Delhi, one in Mumbai, one within Delhi, and this one in San José, Costa Rica.

La Carpio slum is located between two polluted rivers and the city’s landfill. Over 30,000 residents reside there. I spent a week painting homes as part of a community service trip I led in 2015.
