The Ganges River is considered the holy river of Hinduism. Hindus believe that bathing in it causes the remissions of sins and breaks the cycle of reincarnation after death. Here in Varanasi, many Hindus come to die. Cremation ceremonies run 24/7 on the base of the river. After each person is cremated, their ashes are scattered into the Ganges where they are said to be freed from another cycle of life and death.
